Back in the wind at last! At 4 in the afternoon yesterday the wind started to fill in (right on schedule) and we have been making good progress since then, 20 to 25 knots in 20 knots of wind.
The fog is still very thick, no more than a boatlength in front of us so radar watch is continuous. Course is still a compromise as we have still not finalised our negotiation of the high pressure ahead. We have a few hours to decide whether to pass to the west or the east of it and we have the best minds on board and those on the shore looking at the various options. Up ahead near Mauritius there is a tropical depression brewing and we have to factor that into our decision making. How big will it get, and where is it going to move to?
Will let you know the latest in tomorrow’s report. Meanwhile, except for the thick fog it is great to be sailing again. We are riding the edge of new wind so the seastate is good. One reef and the staysail is a good rig, and the on watch team are playing the traveler and the mainsheet to keep the boat at optimum speed.
