A huge success for the 76th edition of the now legendary JPMorgan Asset Management Round the Island Race.
The largest boat race of the kind, this 76th edition gathered nearly 1,800 boats in other words more than 14,500 competitors, who lined up for the starts in Cowes heading west for a 50-mile race.
4th sporting event in England, it confirms the growing interest of people for this type of event, which enables professional and amateur sailors to sail together.
At the same time in the JPMorgan Asset Management Regatta Village the very numerous spectators could follow the race and wait for the competitors to come back while enjoying the various activities and entertainment specially organised for the day.
Among the fleet, the new Extreme 40 sport catamaran did a very noticed appearance. Skipped by Dame Ellen MacArthur, the JPMorgan Asset Management Extreme 40 crossed the line first after 4 hours 23 minutes and 5 seconds of sailing. A great experience for our PR guests who were lucky enough to sail on an identical Extreme 40. And a good omen for the next race of their new circuit, the iShares Cup, which will take place on the 7th ,8th and 9th of July 2007 in Marseille.
JPMorgan Asset Management, the title sponsor since 2005, is definitely looking forward to the next edition. Doing such a race calls on a combination of qualities essential to JP Morgan’s success as one of the leading asset management companies. It is also the case for the race partners who know they make this event possible and are proud of it.
The charitable dimension also needs to be pointed out as this year the event raised more than £ 80,000 for charities.
