A great stopover in Marseille for the 2nd iShares Cup race

It’s from Marseille’s Vieux Port that the spectators enjoyed the show given by the Extreme 40, in the revolutionary grand prix catamaran series. 7 boats in other words 28 sailors faced each other during those 3 days.

It’s the British Team Basilica who won this edition and this strengthen its leadership, closely followed by Franck Cammas and his team, 7th skipper to join in for this iShares Cup taking place in Marseille after skipper like Dame Ellen macArthur and Sébasien Josse. Team Groupama is on standby in Newport (USA) at the moment, in the middle of records campaign, but as the weather window was not to come this WE for the New-York – Cap Lizard record, they decided to come and try their chance as according to Cammas: “the concept is attractive and I wanted to take part in this race especially as it’s taking place at home, in Marseille”

Marseille is the only French stopover as after Munich the fleet will meet in Cowes and Amsterdam

Let’s notice the decision of the iShares Cup to adhere to the Green Blue Challenge, an initiative of the Royal Yacht Association and the British Marine Association to improve the environmental performance of both the leisure and marine industry. This initiative is made of simple actions: the use of friendly products for boat wash-downs, to recycle waste whenever it’s possible… During the regattas, each vessel was given a waste-bag in order to ensure that any rubbish is securely stowed on board and disposed off appropriately at the end of the event and that consequently no waste is allowed to enter the water.

The iShares Cup circuit continues in three weeks time stopping in Cowes from the 3-5 August at the start of Skandia Cowes Week.
