Liz enjoyed her sailing, she said yesterday, at her arrival in Port-Haliguen.
For her last leg of the 2004 edition of La Solitaire, our skipper met incredible times on board. A south-west wind has pushed the 52 single-handed sailors from Gijon (Spain) to Quiberon (Brittany), crossing Biscay with vey high speed averages. Average speed of 8,7 knots for Liz.
« It was unbelievable, I had my big spinnaker until 45 knots of true wind and my maximum speed has been 23,7 knots. It was very physical, and wind has been bigger and bigger and I couldn’t drop my kite otherwise I would have seen the others go. So I kept it being concentrated for not broaching or making a chinese jibe ! ».
After the two previous legs, Liz was frustrated for not having finished her job. She arrived in Brittany with her a boat in a perfect state while others have broken a lot (sails, electronics…).
After a difficult start, Liz has caught up a part of the fleet with being west side, she had a good position to undertake 5 competitors in the last hours. Kookaï-eol finishes 34th of this 4th leg.
Charles Caudrelier (Bostik Findley) has won the overall race, and Yann Elies (Generali) this 4th leg.
